Festivals in England

Festivals and Events in England are celebrated with much pomp and show. The people of England enthusiastically wait for the time of Festival and Events in England. If you want to witness the true essence of the culture of England then you must visit this country at the time of its festivals and events. The population of England is predominantly Christian and thus most of the festivals and events in England usually have Christian connections. Some of the important festivals in England include Good Friday, Christmas and New Year. The different cities in England have unique styles of celebrating the New Year and bidding farewell to the old one. Formerly in the Anglo-Saxon England, the New Year started on Christmas Day, that is the 25th of December but now it's 1st of January that is known to be the New Year's Day all over England.
When one is talking about New Year in England, one can't forget mentioning about the famous Hogmanay, New Year in Scotland. Hogmanay starts just after the Boxing Day on December 26th. Boxing Day is yet another very important part of the festivals and events in England. You can also enjoy your New Year in the Sea by cruising aboard in some of the popular New Year Cruises in England. The legendry Santa Claus does not exist in England. Instead, children receive gifts from Father Christmas. Plum pudding is the most famous dessert preparation made on Christmas.

Most festivals in Spain are religious in origin, but nowadays the religious component is usually secondary to the general spirit of celebration. Spain has dozens of festivals and most towns have their own in addition to the national ones.

January Reyes Magos, known as the Epiphany in English, is celebrated throughout Spain on January 6
March Fallas de San Jose is held in Valencia just before spring. Bonfires are built and there's an interesting night-time parade
April An April Fair is held in Seville.
Fiesta de Moros y Cristianos, also known as the Moors and Christians, is celebrated across Spain


Festival in greece

Greece and the Greek Islands has been organizing and welcoming festivals since the antiquity.

Today, the Festivals in Greece have a religious basis and are in accordance with the Orthodox calendar. The Orthodox calendar is similar to the Catholic calendar except for Easter.
Other important festivals have a cultural nature.
Many theatrical plays are performed in the country’s ancient and modern theatres. Cinema is quite well represented
in Greece and a festival takes place every year in Thessaloniki.
The country also has an interesting musical scene, especially during summertime, with many appearances from national and international bands.

Festival is the Netherlands

Holland Festival is the Netherlands' largest international artistic festival established in 1947, and taking place each year in Amsterdam. It covers wide scope of cultural events from the fields of theater, opera, music and dance and additionally always brings interesting films and artistic shows. Its approach is anti-elitist but at the same time trying to show the current top. This gives an interesting choice of the newest and sometimes unknown events combined with already recognized artistic achievements. Holland Festival has usually one general theme like Oppression & Compassion (in 2007), Cielo e Terra (in 2008).

Holland Festival also aims at bringing artistic events which would be popular with wider public (as pop music concerts) and braking the barriers between so called 'low art´ and 'high art´.'The future is with impure art´ - states its program. Holland Festival organizes interesting meetings, conferences and issues its own publications

Festival in Canada

Ottawa's Canada Day Festival exemplifies the enthusiasm, cooperation and spirit of the individuals, businesses and organizations that make up Ottawa, a dynamic city and the nation's capital. On January 1, 1855, the town of Bytown became the City of Ottawa. On December 31, 1857, the day before the city's third birthday, Queen Victoria guaranteed Ottawa a place in history when she chose it to be the capital of Canada. This year Ottawa celebrates 151-years as Canada celebrates 139-years.
This year's Ottawa's Canada Day Festival is being launched on Friday, June 27th 2008 with a speech from Mayor Larry O'Brian and special performances from the Firefighter's Band and the Nepean Orchestra. The Canada Day Festival has talented performers, unique entertainment and fun for the whole family all weekend until our finale on July 1st 2008 Canada Day!


Festival in Belgium


Rock Werchter is a four-day festival in Werchter, Belgium running from Thu 3-Sun 6 July. Radiohead will be headlining the Saturday night. W.A.S.T.E. will be selling a 1-day ticket for the Saturday 5 July, as well as a 4-day ticket and another ticket that allows you to camp.
Your ticket price includes access to the festival ground, as well as one outward and one homeward journey by train from every Belgian NMBS rail station (excluding Thalys and Eurostar) to Leuven, and one outward and one homeward journey with a De Lijn festival bus from Leuven to Werchter. People from the Netherlands (and all other visitors travelling from abroad) may use their Rock Werchter ticket to travel free of charge from the first Belgian train station. It is still necessary to buy a ticket to travel to and from this first Belgian train station. At De Lijn, festival tickets are valid only on special festival buses from/to Leuven Station to/from Werchter - not on other lines. This offer is valid from Thursday morning 3 July through Monday 7 July.
